Grammer to host DGA Awards

Kelsey Grammer has been tapped to host the 64th annual Directors Guild of America Awards on Jan. 28 at the Hollywood & Highland ballroom. It's the first time in 24 years that Carl Reiner, now 89, hasn't been scheduled to host the DGA Awards. Jon Cryer subbed two years ago as a last-minute replacement for Reiner, who had taken ill from food poisoning, which broke a string of 21 consecutive hosting gigs. "We're thrilled to welcome Kelsey Grammer as the host of the DGA Awards," DGA president Taylor Hackford said. "With his acerbic wit, his mellifluous voice and his long experience in the entertainment industry, the evening promises to be just as irreverent, intimate and entertaining as always." Grammer became a DGA member in 1996 and was nominated for a DGA Award for the comedy series category for the "Merry Christmas, Mrs. Moskowitz" episode of "Frasier." In addition to directing nearly 40 episodes of "Frasier," Grammer's directing credits include "Everybody Hates Chris," "Out of Practice," "My Ex Life," "Alligator Point" and "Hank." The DGA had asked Reiner to serve as a host for the final time for the 2011 ceremonies as part of the kickoff for its 75th anniversary celebration. Contact Dave McNary at dave.mcnary@variety.com
